History Of South Philly Barbacoa
South Philly Barbacoa is a much-buzzed-about Mexican hot spot located in South Philly’s Italian Market. Chef Cristina Martínez’s legendary cooking takes the spotlight, just as it has on Chef’s Table, Bon Appetit and more. Martinez was named best chef in the Mid-Atlantic region at the 2022 James Beard Awards.
Lines often trail out the door, and customers gather around the communal tables, along the wall counter and at the outdoor tables in front to feast on tacos, quesadillas, tamales and more.
The restaurant’s façade is decked out in the mirrored chips of an Isaiah Zagar mural; inside, bright yellow walls hung with original artwork (South Philly Barbacoa doubles as a gallery space) are accented by floral waxed tablecloths.
Even in a neighborhood rich with stellar Mexican restaurants, this festive and impassioned establishment stands out from the pack.
Acquisition
In 2020, we came across the domain and got to know about the rich history of South Philly Barbacoa. We decided to continue its legacy, but in a whole new field. We wanted to help people with their everyday life, hence decided to review Home and Kitchen items that people use.
